18 + ROAD TEST
Now Offering Adult Road Tests (Ages 18+)
FK Chestnut Driving Academy is proud to announce an important expansion of our services.
Beginning March 16, 2026, licensed commercial driver training schools in North Carolina are authorized to administer the official road test for adults 18 years of age and older seeking a non-commercial Class C driver license.
What This Means for You
Adults who:
-
Are 18 years of age or older
-
Hold a valid North Carolina Class C Learner’s Permit
…may now complete their official road test directly with FK Chestnut Driving Academy using the approved state road test routes.
What’s Different for Adult Applicants?
The road test process itself remains the same and includes:
-
Vehicle inspection
-
On-road driving evaluation
-
Scoring and rating documentation
However, unlike applicants under 18:
-
No authorizing adult or supervising driver signature is required as part of the paperwork.
Important Information
-
A passing road test score remains valid for 180 calendar days.
-
Applicants must visit a North Carolina Driver License Office within that 180-day window to be issued their license.
-
If a 17-year-old passes a road test and turns 18 before going to the License Office, the passing score remains valid (within the 180-day period), though a new application will be required at the License Office.
We are excited to provide expanded testing opportunities to better serve our community and help more drivers safely and efficiently obtain their North Carolina driver license.
